LAHOFER TENDS THE RAJSKÁ VINEYARD ON THE HISTORIC TERRACES BELOW ST. NICOLAS’S CHURCH NEAR THE ZNOJMO TOWN CENTRE.
The Lahofer winemakers derived the name of their business from the name of the Dobšice native, artistic woodcarver, Jan Lahofer. At the end of 18th century, this artist made a unique set of Baroque bookcases, today a jewel in the crown of the Premonstratensian Monastery and on display at the Memorial of National Literature at Strahov in Prague.
HISTORY OF THE BUSINESS
The LAHOFER Winery is supported by a strong tradition of viticulture in the Znojmo region, developed through state-of-the-art viticulture procedures and technologies. LAHOFER makes wines from all the main Central European grape varieties, exclusively from grapes grown in their own vineyards (except for the special series of French wines), selling part of their vineyard production to other wine producers.
The company was established in Znojmo in 2003 under the name První znojemská vinařská a.s. as a joint-stock company, marketing the first three vintages - 2003, 2004 and 2005 - of their premium-quality wines (přívlastkové víno) under that business name . The year 2006 was a breakthrough year for the company due to the newly completed and launched winery at Dobšice u Znojma. The relocation of the company headquarters was accompanied with a brand change. The new brand name was inspired by the Dobšice native, artistic woodcarver, Jan Lahofer.
In 2012, after the vineyard purchase and the winery’s equipment upgrade with the installation of new technology, the winery’s production capacity was set at a maximum annual production of 800 thousand bottles.
During the tourist season, the wines produced by the company can be tasted daily in the wine castle Lampelberg u Vrbovce, in the tasting gazebo Rajská Vineyard near the Znojmo city centre below St. Nicolas´s Church, in the wine cellar lane at Chvalovice or all-year-round in the LAHOFER Hotel in Veselá Street in Znojmo.
In 2014 the LAHOFER Winery purchased a business share in the HANZEL Winery in the town of Miroslav. Since increasing its production capacity in 2012, HANZEL has purchased a substantial portion of their grapes from LAHOFER for its own production.
In addition to the HANZEL brand and the winery itself, which has at its disposal wine-making technologies with an annual production capacity of around 120 thousand bottles a year, the LAHOFER company further broadened their portfolio with the historic construction of the winery in Miroslav, newly reconstructed and transformed into a hotel with a fashionable wine cellar, restaurant and training centre.
